The stones that are used are usually Basalt Stones. They often originate from South America or areas of volcanic activity. the basalt stones include high contents of magnesium and iron silicates and often contain traces of quartz. These stones are formed from volcanic lava. As a result the stones have a great ability to retain, absorb and transfer heat. Their smooth appearance is the result of the lava being smoothed over and over along riverbeds or other water masses.
